EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bea is an Intern Counsellor pursuing her Master’s in Social Work (Clinical) at the University of British Columbia, with an undergraduate degree in Social Work. Over 2 ½ years, Bea served as a child protection social worker, managing and investigating reports of abuse and neglect in foster homes and staffed agency resources across the Vancouver-Coastal region. Her work involved close collaboration with diverse communities, including Bella Coola, Powell River, Pemberton, Squamish, Vancouver, and Richmond.

In addition to her child protection work, Bea has experience as a crisis worker where she provided counseling support to women who experienced violence. Bea supported women fleeing domestic violence, helping them navigate safety planning, resources, and support systems. Bea has completed specialized Violence Prevention and Intervention Training.

FOCUS

Bea employs a person-in-environment approach, combined with client-centered and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques, in her work with children and youth. Her experience with foster home investigations highlighted the significant impact of a child’s environment on their well-being. She integrates this understanding by considering the broader context of each child’s life. Bea prioritizes the child’s role in their own healing through a client-centered approach, while using CBT to help them manage their thoughts and feelings, fostering resilience and growth. Bea’s experience has deepened her commitment to providing compassionate, trauma-informed care to children and youth, strengthened by her understanding of the complex challenges they face.
