EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Kristen is a registered clinical counsellor, school counsellor, and educator with a strong background in education. With over 25 years of experience in the public school system as both an educator and a counsellor, she is skilled in working with children and supporting their family members. Kristen has also worked as a therapist in community-based programs. Kristen has extensive experience supporting children and youth struggling with social, emotional, and behavioral issues, anxiety, ADHD, depression, suicidality, self-harm, ASD, school avoidance, gender identity, and family relationship issues. She offers a safe, empathetic space where clients can feel seen, heard, and understood. Passionate about supporting children, teens, young adults, and their families, Kristen employs a variety of evidence-based modalities in her practice.

Kristen is a seasoned registered clinical counsellor with over two decades of dedicated work with children and youth in roles such as educator and counsellor. Her extensive experience spans both educational and community settings, where she has effectively supported young people facing complex mental health issues. Friendly and relational, Kristen adopts a strength-based and solution-focused approach in her practice. She employs various therapeutic modalities, including Art/play therapy and walk-and-talk, to meet her clients’ needs. As a strong advocate for children and families, Kristen actively facilitates communication with school systems and a range of community resources.

Approach

Kristen provides a trauma-informed, person-centred approach, ensuring a safe and supportive client-therapist relationship. She teaches clients to regulate their nervous systems through empathy, active listening, gentle encouragement, mindfulness, and creativity. Kristen supports children and youth through their developmental stages, using evidence-based tools and strategies to enhance emotional and behavioural regulation, mental wellness, growth mindset, and resilience. Recognizing the vital role of parents and caregivers, she offers them behavioral and emotional support through emotion coaching and boundary-setting.

Fees

$170 per 50 minute session for individuals
$200 per 50 minute session for couples/family

Payment in the form of cash or email transfer is due at the end of each session unless other arrangements have been made. Please note that 2 business days notice is required to cancel a scheduled appointment to avoid being charged the full session fee. Some third party payment plans such as Extended Health Care Insurance and Employee/Family Assistance Programs pay partial or total coverage for counselling services. Please follow up with your benefits plan/health care provider.
